I do well with lists though. And my kids are obsessed with credit cards. So, invented the Back-to-School Credit Card.
There are 10 things listed on each card that will get your kids ready to go back to school. They are pretty general so you can customize them to each child and several different activities can apply to each.
Around here, whenever my kids ask about something, like say, "Why did they close the pool today?" We watch a National Geographic or YouTube video about lightning (or whatever). My kids get excited to watch educational videos because YouTube is apparently cool and that's that only time they get to watch it. People post weird stuff on YouTube.
I am giving my kids two days to complete one card, and I'm bribing them with a dollar for every completed card. I use a hole punch to show that they completed an activity. Kids also really love hole punches.
The cards come in sheets like this. Don't try to print these, they won't be pretty. You will find links to the high-resolution versions at the bottom of this post.
I printed mine on card stock and actually used spray adhesive to stick the front and back together. You could print them front and back but I wanted mine to be really thick; more like a real credit card.
So far my kids are loving it. These cards are really helping my kids get excited to go back to school. They are also helping us to ease back into a routine. Yep, my kids are in serious need of routine these days!
I hope you print some up and make your own. And I hope your kids like them as much as mine do.
I really love Summer... but I am looking forward to peace and quiet. You?
