One of My Favorite Moments (of 2012)

I'm a race director.  A Certified USA Triathlon Race Director to be exact.  Whenever I tell anyone that I own a race series and put on races, including triathlons, they always ask, "How did you get in that?"  Good question.  I was racing and thought, "I can do this."  My former partner, who had 10 years event planning experience at the time, and I came up with some crazy ideas and made them happen.  He's since moved to Europe, but I have a new, great partner.  All is well.

It has been hard (to say the least), and fun (to say the least).  It has opened many other doors for me professionally.  I have met some amazing people.  I love sport, competition, and fitness.  It's great.  Like all jobs, some days I wish I never had to do it again.  But when I watch stuff like this... I nearly cry (ok, maybe a tear or two).  It makes me so happy to see the joy people get from sport.  THAT is why I do it.

Shannon and Colby, a couple I had never met, made the Daybreak Triathlon part of their wedding in 2012.  It was one of my favorite moments of the year!

Did you spy me in the video?  I was the one with the bull horn describing the point-to-point swim. :)
Athletes at the 2011 Daybreak Triathlon
Even if they aren't getting married, I love to see the friendship at the races.  You might think that triathletes are self-absorbed, elitist, fitness snobs.  Not true.  They love the sport and they want to share it.  They are quick to give advice or answer a question.  I have yet to meet a mean one.
Triathlon is a family affair :)
The energy and the fun is so great to be around.  That is not to say it isn't stressful.  The few hours that those athletes are in the water and one the bike are about as stressful as they come.  Triathlon is dangerous.  There is nothing I hate more than an injury at a race.  At the same time, there is nothing better than watching them cross the finish line.
